Introducing Facebook Messenger Marketing for Shopify Stores

In this step-by-step guide I will explain how to get started with the number 1 use case for Messenger marketing: cart reminders.

If you run a Shopify store and want to come out ahead as the world moves away from email & mobile browsers and towards messaging apps, then this guide is for you.

Read on to discover how to send cart reminder messages through Facebook Messenger. Use the below index to quickly navigate between the sections of this post.

What is Messenger Marketing?

Messenger Marketing is using chat platforms to keep prospects and customers engaged in a personal way. By offering more touchpoints, you can adapt your marketing approach to customer preferences and increase sales. For instance, by reminding customers of an abandoned cart through Facebook Messenger.

As such, more and more chat platforms are providing automation options to help businesses move beyond using chat for customer service only.

Conceptually, email marketing works very similarly. However, in practice, emails are often pushed to a list of subscribers. Messenger marketing, on the other hand, is based on a 1:1 conversation and allows you transact without leaving the interface.

Messenger marketing is a logical evolution of email marketing as chat becomes the prime interface for business. More importantly, the results are impressive with 3 to 4 times higher open- and click-through rates than email.

For this reason, Messenger marketing will be growing incredibly fast. Now is the time for marketers to get on the bandwagon and start building their audiences on messaging apps.

How to Send Cart Reminders and Increase Sales?

With this in mind, get started with the number 1 use case for Messenger marketing: cart reminders. Why?

Well, if you aren’t sure whether abandoned carts are a real issue, then check this Business Insider article.

Already in 2015 approximately $4 trillion worth of merchandise was abandoned in online shopping carts. That’s roughly 70% of all online shopping carts.

The good news is that savvy Shopify store owners can recover up to 63% of the abandoned cart value.

This is where Maxwell’s Messenger Marketing App comes in.

The idea is simple. Let’s combine the power of cart reminders with the instant reach & engagement of messaging apps.

With that in mind we build an easy to use app that integrates our conversational messaging engine with the leading e-commerce platform.

Recovering abandoned carts and increasing sales could not be more easy. Just follow these 3 steps:

  1. Install Maxwell’s Shopify App
  2. Configure your Cart Reminder Message
  3. Go Live and Track Sales

Step 1: Install Maxwell’s Shopify App

Search for “Maxwell” in the Shopify App Store or click this link: Install the app and grant Maxwell the required permission.

Afterwards, you’ll follow a simple onboarding process where you grant access to your Facebook page. Make sure that you are an admin of the Facebook page, which will be used to send the cart reminder messages.

In the last step you can configure the coupon popup by editing the text to match your tone of voice and specific offering.

Make sure to create the discount code beforehand and ensure it’s validity when running the coupon popup.

To ensure discounts stay limited, we will only show the coupon popup one time to your customers as an exclusive offer.

Step 2: Configure your Cart Reminder Message

After completing the app installation, you will arrive at your dashboard. From there you can configure your cart reminder message and coupon popup.

Lets see how this works. Simply click the Edit button. Now you’ll be able to adjust our cart reminder message for Facebook Messenger.

Click on Update when you are done.

Lets’s follow the same steps for the coupon popup. Navigate to the Coupon Popup page from the left panel.

Here you can customise the popup to your brand by uploading a logo and by creating a persuasive title & subtitle that follows your unique tone of voice.

Afterwards, click on Update. Congrats! You are ready to go live 👋.

Step 3: Go Live and Track Sales

Move the toggle to GREEN for both the coupon popup and cart reminder message in order to go live with your campaign.

Sit back and start watching sales come in through your dashboard 🙌.

Which Features Do You Want?

For Maxwell, this is just the beginning of what we can build with our conversational messaging engine.

We’re therefore super excited to hear the response from Shopify merchants and aim to align our roadmap with their needs.
